چکیده
In this paper, we present a method for the computation of the low-lying real eigenvalues of the Wilson-Dirac operator based on the Arnoldi algorithm. These eigenvalues contain information about several observables. We used them to calculate the sign of the fermion determinant in oneflavor QCD and the sign of the Pfaffian in N = 1 super Yang-Mills theory. The method is based on polynomial transformations of the Wilson-Dirac operator, leading to considerable improvements of the computation of eigenvalues. We introduce an iterative procedure for the construction of the polynomials and demonstrate the improvement in the efficiency of the computation. In general, the method can be applied to operators with a symmetric and bounded eigenspectrum. ∗ [email protected] † [email protected] 1 ar X iv :1 10 4. 13 63 v1 [ he pla t] 7 A pr 2 01 1

Analyzing the spectrum of general, non-hermitian Dirac operators
We discuss the computational problems when analyzing general, non-hermitian matrices and in particular the un-modified Wilson lattice Dirac operator. We report on our experiences with the Implicitly Restarted Arnoldi Method. The eigenstates of the Wilson-Dirac operator which have real eigenvalues and correspond to zero modes in the continuum are analyzed by correlating the size of the eigenvalu...
متن کاملAn iterative method to compute the sign function of a non-Hermitian matrix and its application to the overlap Dirac operator at nonzero chemical potential
The overlap Dirac operator in lattice QCD requires the computation of the sign function of a matrix. While this matrix is usually Hermitian, it becomes non-Hermitian in the presence of a quark chemical potential. We show how the action of the sign function of a non-Hermitian matrix on an arbitrary vector can be computed efficiently on large lattices by an iterative method. A Krylov subspace app...
متن کاملComparing iterative methods to compute the overlap Dirac operator at nonzero chemical potential
The overlap Dirac operator at nonzero quark chemical potential involves the computation of the sign function of a non-Hermitian matrix. In this talk we present iterative Krylov subspace approximations, with deflation of critical eigenvalues, which we developed to compute the operator on large lattices. We compare the accuracy and efficiency of two alternative approximations based on the Arnoldi...
متن کاملNon-Hermitian Polynomial Hybrid Monte Carlo
In this thesis algorithmic improvements and variants for two-flavor lattice QCD simulations with dynamical fermions are studied using the O(a) improved Dirac-Wilson operator in the Schrödinger functional setup and employing a hybrid Monte Carlo-type (HMC) update. Both, the Hermitian and the Non-Hermitian operator are considered. For the Hermitian Dirac-Wilson operator we investigate the advanta...
متن کاملArnoldi-Faber method for large non hermitian eigenvalue problems
We propose a restarted Arnoldi’s method with Faber polynomials and discuss its use for computing the rightmost eigenvalues of large non hermitian matrices. We illustrate, with the help of some practical test problems, the benefit obtained from the Faber acceleration by comparing this method with the Chebyshev based acceleration. A comparison with the implicitly restarted Arnoldi method is also ...
